Treatment

How do I get a family member into treatment?

Talk to the person with the addiction about your concerns. If they are willing to get help, offer them your support. Have the person call Renascent at 1-866-232-1212 to talk with a trained Renascent addictions counsellor.

Help is also available to you.

Remember millions of Canadians struggle with addiction, but fewer than 10 % seek help. Chances are good the addicted person in your life may not be ready to admit he or she may have a problem. It’s very common – even with all the wreckage of their lives sitting in front of them – they will deny any problems with alcohol or drugs. Don’t be disappointed if your family member or friend refuses to seek help.

There are other steps you can take toward positive change. Consider the following:

  1. Get information: Learn about addiction, treatment and recovery.  And research effective treatment programs like Renascent Complete Care.
  2. Stop hiding the problem: Sometimes those living or working in close proximity to addiction try to cover up the problem. Unfortunately, you help the problem continue if you help someone hide it.
  3. Get help for yourself: Whether or not your loved one seeks help, you can get support to help you make your situation better. Call Renascent at 1-866-232-1212 and attend a free family information night. There are also 12-step meetings for families, Al-Anon and Alateen for younger people, in your community.

The choices you make to take care of yourself will help you, the rest of your family, and the person with the addiction problem.
