Bryan Adams visits Renascent’s Graham Munro Centre

Canadian Music Hall of Famer Bryan Adams took a day off from his Canadian tour to stop by Renascent’s Graham Munro Centre. The singer’s foundation recently provided a grant to help stop the deterioration of our women’s only treatment facility.

The financial support provided by the Bryan Adams Foundation came specifically from the sale of photos he took of the late Amy Winehouse. The grant funded renovations to the facility’s living room space. Adams spent May 6 touring the centre, checking out the newly renovated living room and visiting with some of our employees and clients. To mark the occasion, Adams inscribed “now is your time” on a clock that will remain hanging in the building’s living room.

The Graham Munro Centre offers 25 beds in a home-like environment and operates on a continuous intake basis. Its location in the heart of downtown is ideal for serving women throughout the GTA. Renascent first identified the need for renovations in 2006 when an assessment of the property found the centre required improved accessibility and updated equipment. In 2008, a fire caused significant damage to the building’s lower level, revealing major structural issues.

“We are thankful for the support we have received from the Bryan Adams Foundation,” said Patrick Smith, CEO of Renascent. “Their commitment to this project ensures we are able to continue providing quality treatment to more than 300 women each year.”

Adams set up his foundation in 2006 to help protect vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals all over the world. Its aim is to improve the quality of people’s lives by providing financial support to organizations that are committed to bettering the lives of others.

“I have seen Bryan Adams five times in concert,” said one woman that met the rock icon. “He’s so amazing. I can’t believe I had a chance to meet him—and it was in treatment. My wife will not believe this!”

A capital fundraising campaign is currently underway to obtain the funds needed to complete the renovation project. For more information or to make a donation, please contact Jennifer Drouillard Duce, Manager of Major Gifts and Planned Giving at 416-927-1202 Ext. 4447.
